David Baker, Credentialed Mental Health Nurse

  • Providing medical and some psychological support to patients who have mental health issues or who are in distress to help them learn to manage their symptoms and understand their condition.
  • Observing and assessing patients in order to provide information, education and care to individuals, their families and other health professionals.
  • Advocating for patients in order to promote their rights, responsibilities and psychological wellbeing.

David comes from a family of teachers and health care professionals, so helping other people is part of his DNA.  With over thirty years of experience in mental health nursing, David has a warm, compassionate and practical approach towards counselling and talking therapies. He believes that a trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation stone for helping others and is acutely aware of how shame, trauma and stigma can impact on a person’s mental wellbeing. He has qualifications in counselling, Psychosocial Interventions, Behavioural Family Therapy, clinical and Reflective Practice Group supervision and has a Masters of Mental Health Practice.   

David’s areas of special interest include assisting patients with:

  • Early Psychosis,
  • Anxiety/Worry,
  • Depression,
  • Issues relating to men’s mental health needs.

David is also a qualified in psychosocial interventions and is an experienced clinical supervisor. 

David is a very experienced mental health clinician who has worked with complex cases in a variety of settings such as inpatient, adult community and early psychosis. He has a Master of Mental Health Practice and has worked extensively in mental health throughout the UK and Australia. He has worked as a counsellor in the UK where he gained a counselling certificate in addition to his mental health nursing qualification.

David takes an eclectic approach to treatment based on Person Centered Therapy and includes a range of other techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Solutions Focused Therapy.

If you are seeing the Credentialed Mental Health Nurse for the first time, please inform reception so they can ensure you receive the additional time needed.

Counselling Fees

Initial Consultation - (approx. 60mins) - $135

Standard Consultation - (approx. 60 mins) - $135

If you have a long-term condition, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program. You will need to see your General Practitioner first to discuss your eligibility/needs.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that life is unpredictable and you may not always be able to make your scheduled appointment. If you can’t make an appointment please contact our reception at least 48 hours prior to cancel or arrange for another time.

Missed appointments and appointments cancelled without 48 hours notice may be charged the full consultation fee.
