Workshops
The occupational therapy team runs regular workshops to address the needs of our clients. The following workshops are scheduled to run through the year, usually on Saturdays. Please check with reception to find the specific dates.

FAMILY FUN
At this workshop you’ll learn what your own preferences are regarding sensory needs and problem solving. You will then compare this to other family members and as a family you’ll be guided towards techniques that meet your own needs as well as those of the other family members. You’ll understand each other better and you’ll see how you can, as a group, function as a whole, each member filling specific roles to ensure that your family is a great unit and brings out the best in each parent and child. We’ll practice and demonstrate various ways to solve individual differences while having fun with many different activities, easy projects and games.
Families with children older than 8 years will learn more about

Be ready for laughter and joy while we provide new and exciting ways to solve the dragging problems, the everyday irritations and to reduce the family tensions.
You’ll leave this workshop feeling in control, knowing each other better and understanding your family dynamics.
AU$ 600 for a family of four. Options are available to accommodate smaller and larger families.
LIVING AND WORKING WITH ASD
Living and loving a child with ASD can be a very fulfilling experience for a parent or carer. However, the challenges surrounding the diverse characteristics of the spectrum can be very overwhelming.
Parents and Carers of children with ASD will be introduced to strategies involving communicating with a child with ASD, Visual Scheduling, Organisational Skills, Sensory Diet and Activities of Daily Living Support.
Utilising the skills and knowledge of therapists who have worked closely with Autism Queensland, parents and carers will have the opportunity to interact and engage with professionals and other families experiencing similar lifestyles.
Workshops will aim to be fully interactive and engaging so that each voice in the room can be heard and experiences shared.
The workshop will consist of:
- Information Sessions
- Practical Exercises
- Feedback Time
- Networking / Sharing of experiences with the group
SENSIBLE PARENTING
Parents attend this workshop to sharpen parenting skills. Ideally both parents should attend but one parent and single parents are welcome.
Parents of young children will enjoy new insight in parenting. A quick questionnaire will indicate your preferred parenting type and strategies to cope with this will make your life easier.
Through many different activities and exciting projects, you’ll enjoy fun and laughter. You’ll also learn how to use these at home to create the ideal environment for your children. You will learn how to play with your children but also how to balance the kids time and personal time.

SENSORY TALK: WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
Teachers and care givers of young children or after school care can learn what sensory integration and processing is all about. How it develops and how it affects the behaviour.
You’ll have the opportunity to experience the difficulties that children with sensory issues has during the day. We’ll provide many strategies that you can use to address these and to meet their needs. This will ensure improved attention and concentration which will not only be beneficial for the child with sensory issues but many of these activities can be used for the whole class to encourage positive behaviour.

Teachers can attend the regular workshops on the calendar or contact us to arrange for a workshops presented at your school.
You’ll be able to understand the children in your class better and you’ll have strategies in place to address challenging behaviours.
Cost $190 per person. Options are available for groups and for schools.
