The occupational therapy team runs regular groups for different age groups. Please check with Tyack reception for the next scheduled group times.

ASD KIDS CLUB

Kids living with ASD will require social, emotional and sensory support as they grow. ASD Kids Club will facilitate a number of groups focusing on topics and issues surrounding ASD. Children will learn to maximise their potential in a safe and fun learning environment.

Facilitators will include Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology primarily however other professionals may be invited if their input is required.

Groups will aim to teach:

• Use of Visuals to maximize organisation and communication
• Social Skills
• Emotional Maturity and Coping in Group Situations
• Self-esteem
• Cooperating
• Attending to task
• Following the leader
• Taking turns
• Sharing
• Following directions

• $ 50 per session
• 6 weekly session lasting 1 hour

MUMS & BABES

Sensory integration is the foundation of many other areas of development including balance, motor coordination and emotional stability.

Our groups cater for mothers and babies between 6 and 30 months. Children, who experience learning and emotional problems in school, often have problems with sensory processing. These problem areas can be identified and addressed in the very young child to prevent problems in later years through early intervention. Our sessions will teach parents about sensory integration, about stimulation to encourage optimal development, and possible developmental problems will be identified.

• Development of movement, balance and motor skills
• Development of vision and hearing
• Smell, taste and oral-motor development
• Bilateral movements and it’s relation to sequencing, routine and memory.
• Small groups
• 6 weekly sessions of 1 hour

SENSAKIDS

Nurturing a child’s emotional well-being, whilst developing core skills for efficient sensory processing is an important aspect of the Tyack health Groups therapeutic program. The groups consist of 4-8 children and follow a sensory processing and sensori-motor development foundation as well as socio-emotional skills development. Developing a sense of self-confidence is imperative for successful social interaction. Self-concept begins with emotional development. Thus fostering emotional growth is a key aspect of the group sessions. Children are praised for small achievements which inherently reinforces the child’s feeling of success and internal motivation. In turn, they are more likely to want to try new activities and actively engage in group activities. Children will learn and maximise:
