Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a general term used to describe therapy in warm water. Qualified Physiotherapists who practice hydrotherapy may also refer to it as "Aquatic Physiotherapy".
Aquatic Physiotherapy (hydrotherapy) involves rehabilitation in warm water (usually 32-34 degrees celsius) which ensures a therapeutic effect and involves a specific set of physiotherapy techniques and exercises using the unique properties and benefits of water. Aquatic physiotherapists use hydrotherapy pools as a medium for rehabilitation. This can be just as effective as treatment on land, often with less discomfort. Hydrotherapy helps to improve strength, range of motion, balance and co-ordination especially when gravity or weight bearing poses a problem.
Hydrotherapy exercise utilises the benefits of buoyancy to ensure a “weight-less” feeling, at the same time using resistance from the water to develop movement control. Health regulations state that you will need to rinse your body prior to stepping into the pool.
